
We are thrilled to announce that our keynote speaker at Scholarship Day this year will be Nora Warshawsky, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNE, FAAN. Dr. Warshawsky will be presenting, “Why the nurse manager practice environment is important: Outcomes that matter!”
Dr. Warshawsky is a professor at the University of Central Florida, teaching in the graduate nursing leadership programs. Her expertise is grounded in 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Her research seeks to understand the influence of organizational context and job design on nurse manager practice.
She is a nationally recognized expert in evidenced-based leadership practices and nursing leadership development. She serves as a Commissioner for the Pathway to Excellence recognition of the American Nurses Credentialing Center and earned recognition as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing for her contribution to nursing leadership.
Dr. Warshawsky is transforming nursing leadership through research, education, and service. Dr. Warshawsky conducted the first quantitative studies of job satisfaction and turnover in US Nurse Managers. Through her program of research, she seeks to understand the relationships among nurse manager role preparation, job design, the organizational context and nurse and patient outcomes of nurse managers’ practice. Her seminal contribution is the development and psychometric testing of the Nurse Manager Practice Environment Scale (NMPES). The NMPES is used by nurse leaders to assess their organizations to identify opportunities for improvement. Her work is disseminated internationally through numerous publications and presentations.
Dr. Warshawsky is a nationally recognized expert in nursing leadership development and evidence-based leadership practices. Before coming to UCF, Dr. Warshawsky taught for 7 years in the executive leadership DNP program at the University of Kentucky and in the health systems MSN program as a teaching fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She is the 2019-2020 President of the Council on Graduate Education for Administrative Nursing (CGEAN). Dr. Warshawsky serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for the Journal of Nursing Administration and reviewer for International Journal of Nursing Studies and Research in Nursing & Health. Since 2016, she is influencing practice as the Vice Chair of the Commission on Pathway to Excellence of the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Dr. Warshawsky earned her BSN from the University of Pittsburgh, MPA from Troy University, MSN from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
